Also supporting Netsky LIVE! at Electric on Friday 28th September is Metrik, a rising star in the D+B scene who has been impressing with his superb dancefloor-driven, euphoric tracks. Metrik tunes are full of soaring synth lines and pumping drums, all expertly produced with buckets of energy and danceability. We’ve been loving the tracks on the “Between Worlds EP” on Viper Recordings and more recently UKF smash “Freefall (feat. Reija Lee), as well as his remix of Camo & Krooked’s “Cross The Line” which featured on the “Between The Lines” album. We are looking forward to welcoming Metrik to Brixton and decided to spend 5 minutes catching up with him ahead of the show.
Who is Metrik (explain who you are and what you do)?
My name is Tom Mundell – I’m a DJ and producer based in South West London. I produce drum + bass, dubstep and house.
What can we expect from your set on Friday 28th September?
High energy, big tunes and good vibes. I’ve been very busy in the studio over the summer working on remixes for DJ Fresh, Dirtyphonics, Ayah Marar, Cutline & Fleur and Rockwell as well as some really exciting collaborations and a lot of my own productions so expect to hear a lot of them. It’s an exciting time for drum + bass and electronic music in general so I like to share a lot of the most cutting edge tracks around at the moment as well as some well known anthems.
What do you think are the defining aspects of your productions? How do we recognise a Metrik tune?
I’d say my music is quite diverse since I draw influences from many different genres of music but one of the defining aspects is how I put them together to create a powerful and epic drive. I like to use interesting and uplifting melodies so I think that is part of my signature sound too.
What are your favourite things about Netsky?
I think he makes some of the most consistent and sophisticated music in the current market and I admire his uncompromising ability to stay true to his own sound. He’s also a lovely chap. I’ve known him since he first started sending tracks and he’s always come across as very down to earth.
Why are you looking forward to supporting Netsky LIVE!
It will be great to play alongside world-class artists such as Netsky and Ayah Marar and to check out the live band for the first time which I’ve heard is immense. I’m also looking forward to playing to the Hospitality crowd for the first time – I’ve been to many of the events in the past and they are some of my favourite to go to so I can’t wait!
